This study aims to determine the factors affecting the political participation of young peo-
ple in Şırnak city center. This study is important for the determination of political interest
and political participation types of young people. The research question of this study is
“What factors affect the political participation dimensions of 14-19 year-old young people
and their participation levels?” Quantitative research methods have been applied in the
research. Descriptive and comparative analysis were used as research design. The study
was carried out using the literature (Yates and Youniss, 1998: 510; Flanagan and Faison,
2001:4-9, Albanesi, Cicognani and Zani, 2007:402-403; Zaff, Malanchuk, and Eccles,
2008:42-43; Hawkins et.al., 2009:92; Altın and Kasımoğlu, 2016), expert opinions and
participatory observation methods. The study was designed with the data obtained from
the process which includes the views of experts in three different EU member countries,
the views of experts in Turkey, and youth participation within the framework of the project
supported by EU. The participating experts were chosen among NGO activists, lectur-
ers, politicians and educators with international experience and accumulation in youth
and cultural research. The project was conducted under the leadership of WALD (World
Local Government and Democracy Foundation). A scale is developed based on the data
obtained from the research design of this project. The scale was applied to young peo-
